PRESIDENT'S CORNER

Dear Members and Friends:
Happy November,
At the conference in July I attended a workshop that stressed that we should keep track of all the projects we do in a file. This way when evaluations are due you just pull out the file and you have all the
information you need at your fingertips. What a great idea if you are not already doing it.
I just received notice that there will be further cuts in our department and my office will be hit. They have not said who yet but forewarning us it will be someone in my office. Of course we were panicking. Procrastination and wanting to hide my head in a hole thinking this will blow over. A friend reminded me that this might be a good thing -- opens new doors even if we did not want that door to open yet. It's time to take a deep breath and think of what I need to prepare for this new adventure, if I don't retire yet I will need to update my resume.
How many of you have taken time to review and update your information.
We need to keep our networking current -- call your friends to see what is up, get letters of reference and learn and acquire new skills relevant
to our area of expertise.
Remember that the people who have to do the layoffs feel just as bad. Don't cut your ties -- let them know what you plan to do, ask them to keep you in mind for get togethers and also to keep in on the list for any rehires. Sometimes some organizations have formed pools of people who are part-timers and retirees that are used as temporary workers.
Make sure to keep your attitude positive!
Regards,
Eva
